Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
If It Bleeds by Stephen King (expected May 5, 2020) – This is the next novel in the Holly Gibney series. I haven’t even really read the blurb- but like all new Stephen King books, I’m super excited for it.
The Girl and the Stars by Mark Lawrence (expected April 21, 2020) – Ugh – This year is going to be my year to catch up on all things Mark Lawrence. I might even reread Prince of Thorns. I’m super excited for this one, even if I likely won’t get to it right away.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins (expect May 19, 2020) – This prequel feels like it is finally my chance to join in with everyone’s love for The Hunger Games. I never read the books because I loved the movie so much. I’m sure this book will get a movie too, but I plan to read the book first this time.
A Conjuring of Assassins by Cate Glass (expected February 4, 2020) – This is the sequel to last year’s An Illusion of Thieves. I loved that one and I’m confident I’ll love this one too.
Eden by Tim Lebbon (expected April 7, 2020) – I’d tell you what this is about but I stopped reading after it said eco-thriller. It made me think of another favorite author, Michael Crichton.
The Kingdom of Liars by Nick Martell (expected May 5, 2020) – This book is set in a world where magic is paid for in memories. I’m both curious and hesitant about this one. I can see it being really fantastic, but I can also see the premise setting the book up for trouble. Are there armies of people who remember nothing? How does that work? Is magic used sparingly? I’m remaining cautiously optimistic.
The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin (expected March 24, 2020) – This novel is based on a short story that was included in Jemisin’s How Long Til Black Future Month? which released last year. While I wasn’t sure I quite liked that particular story, I loved the concept and I’m hopeful that with a full length novel she can answer some of the questions I had about it.
These last three I’ve all mentioned in previous posts, which I’ve linked to below in case you missed them or would like to check them out again.
The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K.S. Villoso (expected February 18, 2020)
The Book of Koli by M.R. Carey (expected April 14, 2020)
The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones (expected May 19, 2020)
What are your most anticipated releases for the first half of the year? Leave me a link below so I can check them out!
*immediately adds Eden and The Only Good Indians to my TBR mountain*
I just received the ARC for The Wolf of Oren Yaro and I’m really excited to start it.

Update: Just got the ARC for The Only Good Indians and I’m practically dancing in my seat, it sounds so good.

Wow that was fast!! I hope you love all 3! I haven’t seen ARCs floating around for Eden though but I’m sort of desperate for one.

Fantastic list, Sarah! I have almost all of these on my TBR already, but the Tim Lebbon book is new to me. Super excited for The Book of Koli and The Only Good Indians😁

I just realized I hadn’t replied to this yet- but I saw the Lebbon book kicking around on Edelweiss. I’d love for them to put out an ARC. I think that’s one I’d break my ARC requesting ban for… lol. There are a couple others on this I’m willing to make an exception for too. (The Book of Koli!)

I’ve been looking at The Kingdom of Liars myself. Sounds like an interesting read, but scared I’ll be disappointed.

That’s what I’m scared about. I think I’ll wait for a library copy just in case but I think it has the potential to be awesome!

Fantastic list!
I’m super excited for The Kingdom of Liars only because Sanderson blurbed it haha. Though, you bring up good questions about it!

It’s funny how that works huh? I was going to try and read a bunch of stuff Stephen King blurbed but then I found out he blurbs everything 🙃. Lol

Isn’t that that the worst? I also tried that once. You get lost so fast haha.

I’ve met Stephen Graham Jones. He’s published with a press called FC2, and I know several of the writers from that group. Jones is handsome and looks so cool online, but he really comes off as a mega nerd in real life, which cracked me up. His work can be hit and miss for me. Sometimes he leans more toward experimental, which is what FC2 publishes, so much so that I can’t really follow along. Other times, he’s right in his element with wild horror. I loved The Last Final Girl, and though I was out of my element at times with It Came from Del Rio, there were great moments and potential there.

I really want to read The Last Final Girl!! I keep wondering whether I should just bite the bullet and Pay the 4.95 or keep waiting for a sale. And I love that he’s a nerd in real life! I am too (in case you couldn’t tell).

The Last Final Girl is written like a movie script, so it’s great fun. Which other Jones novels or collections have you read?

Right now only Mapping the Interior, which was really disturbing but in a good way. I also have an ARC of The Only Good Indians which I’m really looking forward to.

I haven’t even heard of Mapping the Interior. The guy puts out SO MANY BOOKS. I do wish some of them were editing for content a bit better; his books that miss for me are ones that tend to read like a first draft that needed feedback on where the reader gets lost.

Mapping the Interior was definitely professionally edited. I think Tor put it out. Its only $3.99 if you wanted to give it a go! Be warned it’s also pretty short, like 100 pages or so.

Wow, I didn’t know he is now hooked up with Tor. Thanks for the recommendation.

The Hunger Games prequel sounds intriguing! It’s been a few years since I read the books, but luckily for me the movies kept the story fresh in my mind, and it will be interesting to see how the world depicted there came to be… 🙂

I’m always more excited for the downfall than for what came after, and having an idea of Collins’s potential, I’m really really excited for it!

One of these days I’ve got to read more Mark Lawrence!

Which ones have you read so far? I read Prince of Thorns, and that one is probably my favorite, and I’ve slowly been collecting his other titles (Red Sister, King of Thorns… Prince of Fools…) Now I just need to read all of them. lol

I actually never read The Hunger Games, only watched the movies.. so I’m not nervous at all. Just really excited to see how it all goes down!

I keep forgetting a new Hunger Games book is coming out. Also, I am really excited for the new Jemisin but I probably won’t be able to get to it until next year.

Nothing wrong with leaving it until next year! There’s lots of good stuff coming out over the next few months so I’m sure I’ll end up in the same boat with at least a few of them.

Yep! I have plenty to read in the meantime 😉

I’m curious about the Hunger Games prequel, too! I enjoyed the books (as well as the movies) but I don’t know where we’ll be going with the prequel and that’s part of why I’m excited about it.
